If you
guys are here with an intention to help or if you belong to an Old Boys/Girls
Association or are just a concerned visitor who is interested in helping
the younger generation, there are many ways in which you can help the
schools to build their IT network and knowledge base. If you need more
information or help from this end to co-ordinate your efforts, you can
always contact me. Here are some of ways we can help:
This
is the only way the younger generation is going to get exposed
to the outside world. They have a lot of catching up to do.
The years of isolation from the rest of the world and the consequences
of war have not doused the excitement and interest of the Jaffna
student, but have made them even more eager to learn. The tragedy
of the situation is that the Jaffna student knows that they
are far away from the rest of the IT world, but unfortunately
they are unable to do anything about, except watch the world
pass them by. It is time for us to make a difference. |

Help
them to build a library with computer books.
|
| There
are no book shops selling computer related books in Jaffna. As
you may already know, there are no major libraries functioning
in Jaffna to address this need either. School libraries have few
or no books on the subject matter. The students however, are very
keen to learn. When we conducted a seminar recently a student
came up to us and asked whether he could get a copy of PhotoShop
CD since he is interested in learning it. When we asked him what
good the software would do if he has no access to PhotoShop related
books. He response was he can use the help facility on the software
to learn the basics at least.
You guys can send your used books directly to schools or if
you are interested I could give my address for you to send the
books to and then I can deliver it to the schools you request.

- Help
the schools build and maintain a CD library
|
| I
learnt that Jaffna Hindu and Jaffna Central College administration
are trying to build a CD library for their School. The other schools
should take note and setup their own library for the students.
May I point out again that in Jaffna, there are no shops selling
software CDs, unlike here in Colombo. |
